Does a Designer Wedding Dress Need to Cost the Earth?

The designer wedding dress is every bride's dream, though is often too expensive to consider. If not, then you are one of the lucky ones. However, there are ways to get that designer wedding dress, or at least look as if you have, for a lot less than you might think.

Designer wedding dresses can be found in most of the better bridal salons and from the designers direct. If budget is no obstacle then that perfect dress will more than likely be a designer brand. If, however, you do need to worry about the budget, sales and sewing machines are you friends!

The top name in wedding dress design is Vera Wang, who started her first collection in the early nineties after being unable to find a dress she liked for her own wedding. Details about Vera and her designer wedding dress collections can found on her website at http://www.verawang.com. Other desirable designers include Amsale, Badgley Mischka, Givenchy and Reem Acra to name but a few.

Designer wedding dresses are often available new through sales. Samples and end of line dresses may be sold off by the designer at special sales, or salons might have sales as new collections come in. Dresses sold off at these sales are often anything up to 75% off the original price and, as you can imagine, are extremely popular. If you see one of these sales, get there early to get the best bargains and be prepared to fight for them.

Another way to get hold of a bargain designer wedding dress is to look into once-worn sellers. These often sell other designer wear too. These type of places exist both on and offline and are worth looking out for if you really want a designer wedding dress but can't afford it – if you do not mind that it has been worn before and might need a little alteration for you.

Of course, designer wedding dress does not have to mean top label designer dress. If you or someone you know are a whiz with a sewing machine then you can make your own unique wedding dress. All the fabrics you could possibly want are out there along with many patterns which you could adapt to make them your own. And all for far less than the “real” designer wedding dress.
